Journalist Square Foundation

About

Who we are

Journalist Square is an independent public-benefit foundation. We work for an environment where journalism can ask questions without fear, and where people have what they need to judge the answers.

Why we exist

A square is where people gather to speak out loud. When it narrows, so does the chance of understanding what is actually happening. Free journalism is what keeps it open.

In recent years, pressure on reporters in Bulgaria has moved from outright bans to quieter instruments: lawsuits, withdrawn advertising, refused access to information. At the same time, the flow of deliberately false claims has grown faster than the capacity to check it.

The foundation works on all three fronts — it protects the people who investigate, takes manipulation apart in public, and teaches readers to recognise it themselves.

How we work

01

Verifiable, not persuasive

Every claim we publish rests on a source the reader can open for themselves.

02

Independent of every side

We do not work for a party, an institution or a business. Our funding and spending are public.

03

Free to republish

Our reports and materials may be used freely with attribution.
